DavidC115 Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 Hi, I've only just bought my Audi and I'm having problems with 1st and 2nd gears. You can set off fine and after 5-10 mins 1st to 2nd becomes a problem and sometimes can't get into 1st or 2nd. Then after another 5-10 mins the gear change is as smooth as you like and it continues like that. All other gear changes are very smooth. I have stopped it on a steep hill and held in in first gear no problem, so dont think its clutch related. I have taken it to a garage and they have suggested taking gear box out to inspect which is a big job. Any thoughts on what could be causing my problems would be gratefully received
Steve Q Posted September 9, 2020 Posted September 9, 2020 I'd be first looking at the linkages to see if any of them are loose etc Cheers Steve
DavidC115 Posted September 10, 2020 Author Posted September 10, 2020 Thanks Steve, That sounds a lot easier and cheaper than removing the gearbox!
DavidC115 Posted September 10, 2020 Author Posted September 10, 2020 I discovered today that 2nd gear is available its just not straight back from first, its slightly offset to the right! Would that also suggest that the problem might be with the linkage?

Akys4 Posted Wednesday at 04:05 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:05 PM I’m having same issue with my s4 b7 at times 1st and 2nd work spot on and then sometimes won’t go in to gear after a few attempts it go into gear
cliffcoggin Posted Wednesday at 04:33 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:33 PM Same problem may or may not have the same solution. What have you checked?
Akys4 Posted Wednesday at 07:14 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:14 PM I haven’t checked nothing myself the mechanic checked it and said it was the Conrad bearings on gearbox which I don’t really have a clue much about them but after doing a little research my gearbox don’t make a grinding noise or any sort of noise whilst I’m have the issue it has happened 3 or 4 times ever since I have left the car parked at the garage
Magnet Posted Thursday at 08:17 AM Posted Thursday at 08:17 AM Thanks Mohammed, I would seriously suggest you’d find another mechanic, or gearbox specialist. Regards, Gareth.
