IvanAllam
Good evening, does anyone know of a good garage or specialist to take a 2000 Audi Cabriolet to, on the south coast? I need somewhere that can scan my car, and has an older type scanner with the 2+2 pin-out, not the 16pin OBD type connector. Currently the brake warning exclamation mark light is flashing along with the airbag warning light, and I need to see if they are true warnings or whether they can just be cleared / safely ignored. Many thanks.
Steve Q
Might be worth you getting the battery checked. I found on my 02 A6 before I had a new battery the car would flag up a brake warning when the old battery was low. The airbag warning could be a loose wire under the passenger seat if it's got side, seat or passenger airbags.
IvanAllam
Thanks for the reply, I did have the battery replaced just before I bought the car - so don't think it's that battery (the battery gauge is also giving a good reading) Bizarrely I think I may have solved it - crossed fingers, by topping up the power steering fluid!? Could this be a solution? Also would like to give a shout out to John at JMR Racing in Littlehampton, I spoke him on the phone and he seemed very knowledgeable and so I have booked the car in with him for a good look over. Steve Q
How odd, that's definitely an unusual fix!
IHK 11
Hi warning lights sometimes can be something you least expect them to be. Ive had an amber light with an exclamation mark come on a Bmw e46 when my coolant was low with a small crack in my expansion tank. ive also had a red exclamation light come on a mk 4 escort xr3i when my brake pads were low and ive also had a red exclamation light come on a 1993 Audi coupe with a power steering leak. I know what ive just said are very different issues but cars can be strange at times. You know you spoke about having 2 2 pin connectors for fault code reading my 1990 Audi coupe 2.3e 10 valve has a similar 2 x 2 connectors one is black and one is brown i think and there is a vag code reader you can buy. Maybe someone else on the forum knows more about this vag scanner than i do but its not just a case of plugging it in on my car as the ecu doesnt store codes. What you need to do is take the car for a drive and then stall the engine to get a fault code. On the 20 valve version of my car the ecu does store the fault codes. Maybe yours does as well. Im not too sure. I bet someone else on the forum has good knowledge about the vag scanner and how it works. Good luck. Let us know how you get on.
