Anton8 Posted Friday at 06:51 AM Posted Friday at 06:51 AM It has come to that time of year when I sit in my office at home for hours on end looking for the best deal to insure my E-Tron G.T. Dead line is June 28th, still waiting for Admiral's renewal quote, but the online figures are coming out at about £2700+. It is a good job I like the G.T. Especially as in March it will need to be taxed which will be £195 plus £415 luxury car tax. These insurance companies just don't like us older chaps. Who don't drive at excessive speed, and are not going to wrap it round the nearest lamp post. Tony 1
Steve Q Posted Friday at 11:28 AM Posted Friday at 11:28 AM Do t get me started. My wife's Jag xe is getting harder and harder to insure. Companies don't want to touch anything from the jaguar land rover group. It's about time insurance companies were more heavily regulated 1
Magnet Posted yesterday at 09:20 AM Posted yesterday at 09:20 AM Blinking heck Tony, For the overall cost of buying and running this, I would want slates on the roof, and a council tax bill! I’m well qualified in the pensioner category, but the insurance on my prestige brand non - Audi is not that much more than what you are about to pay for your luxury car tax. In case it helps, I have been insured with Darwin ( subsidiary of Churchill) for a couple of years. Worth a try? Regards, Gareth.
Anton8 Posted yesterday at 10:34 AM Author Posted yesterday at 10:34 AM Hi Gareth. Just tried Darwin, answered all their questions. Result was.......... We are sorry, but we cannot offer you insurance on this occasion. I am going to buy a Smart! Not really. Tony
Magnet Posted yesterday at 10:50 AM Posted yesterday at 10:50 AM Sorry to hear that Tony. Buy a classic car at a fraction of your outlay and get free road tax, cheap insurance which includes an agreed value and breakdown cover. No ULEZ issues. Ideal solution unless you do a lot of motorway driving. Regards, Gareth.
cliffcoggin Posted yesterday at 11:39 AM Posted yesterday at 11:39 AM Tony. There is a fellow associated with this forum who pops up ocassionally and offers insurance. Adrian Flux or something similar is the name. I know nothing of him.
Anton8 Posted yesterday at 11:47 AM Author Posted yesterday at 11:47 AM I did think of a classic, but I'll wait until Admiral confirm my renewal cost. Thanks Cliff, I tried Adrian Flux, another one that wouldn't cover me. Tony
Magnet Posted yesterday at 01:25 PM Posted yesterday at 01:25 PM Dare I say Tony, you and I are of a certain age where insurance companies don’t wish to start insuring us, i.e. if you are currently insured with them then they will continue to do so - at a price! - but comparatively few want to stat to offer cover.
Anton8 Posted yesterday at 02:29 PM Author Posted yesterday at 02:29 PM I think you are correct Gareth. What really upsets me is that when I thought things are jogging along nicely my wife became ill and unable to get about, hence the A6 Avant for her mobility scooter. Then unfortunately she passed away in 2022. I thought I would get myself a car completely for me, and now people are trying to take that away from me as well. Sorry went off on a tangent. I'll keep you in the loop. Tony

Anton8 Posted yesterday at 08:24 PM Author Posted yesterday at 08:24 PM Hi Dan. No, you just said that you were unable to offer me cover. I know that the problem is that I am 81 years old driving a high powered car. Also unfortunately I picked up a speeding ticket last month which was most annoying. I was taking my son and his wife to Gatwick at 03.40 in the morning and set a camera off in Selsdon. It clocked me at 34 mph!!! and I got a £100 fine and 3 points for that. I know that the insurance is going to expensive but I have a car which is my pride and joy. I have had it 2 years now and have only done 6100 miles so it is not as if I am chasing up and down motorways with it. Tony 1 1
Magnet Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Hello Tony, I’m sorry to hear of the sad background news, and can well appreciate your reasons for buying yourself a nice new car, on a why-not basis. At this age, it’s not unusual for the current insurers to come up with more reasonable quotes than comparison sites, so let’s hope for better news. I guess you are inputting the low annual mileage of 3k-? Please let us know how you get on Tony, and/or if you think we can offer any further advice on this. Kind regards, Gareth.
spartacus 68 Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I’m know I’m quoting the obvious here, but insurance business is based on risk. Their business algorithms are set up to minimise losses based on age of person driving, experience (advanced driving qualifications and protected no claims), job, where they live, the car value and insurance rating (1-50 set by Thatcham), and where it’s deemed high risk, then they set the premiums accordingly or simply refuse insurance. A bit like a casino, the house always wins. Health and travel insurance works on exactly basis. I hope you get a satisfactory outcome Tony, but suspect it will be expensive.
Anton8 Posted 5 hours ago Author Posted 5 hours ago First of all I must thank you all for the imput into my Insurance woes. I have now received my new renewal quote from Admiral. It has come in a few pence short of £2k. Which I am more than happy about. So I go on another year driving my fabulous E-Tron GT. Tony 2
Magnet Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Great Tony -very pleased for you. Back to your SP30, didn’t they offer you the option of attending a speed awareness course for around £90, rather than 3 points? Regards, Gareth. 1
Anton8 Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago No they didn't. I would have taken that if I could. Tony
