I wonder is part of it the "matrix" style where it dips for you or if its just LED in general.

Hi LED in general, they are normally mounted to high on the vehicle and dont have a very pronounced beam cut off, if you look at older cars the people who think its better are looking at the lights after fitting as from the outside they are brighter but the truth is from behind the wheel you actually see less, [no beam pattern] which is why they are now a MOT failure, the only reason the continental manufacturers get away with over height lights is because the stupid E.U. allowed it.

Steve.

I have mine set to auto , and I can physically see the black boxes going onto cars Infront and cars approaching .  I just think it's the whiteness that's the issue, that and cars with led lights that aren't automatic and owners are too slow to turn them off.  I'm speaking about high beams and not normal main beams btw.

Hi have the Matrix LED option and do not get any complaints (flashes from oncoming drivers) when driving at night. I think there are a number of factors at play here. 1st issue is those that upgrade convention headlights to high intensity conventional  or LED units where the headlamp bodies are not suitable. Next is high beam assist. Too slow to be relied upon but it is called "assist". Lastly is the mention of beam alignment on SUV type vehicles as mentioned above - some seem to be at eyeline rather than just below as set out in MOT standards. Previous Audi had LED lights - the fog option spread more illumination to the kerb. I saw the BBC conversation and the advice given was the same when I started driving in 1987. My main complaint is not headlights but Fog Lights - how may folk drive with them on persistently rather than switching them off when visibility improves and / or when a vehicle is visible behind.

Thanks Tom,

I think the ‘Look at me, I’ve got spot lights’ fad is now a bit ‘yesterday’.
Annual fad with attention seekers has returned at dusk, where drivers (particularly in dark coloured cars) go as long as they can before switching the lights on.

The latest around these parts is to drive p beyond the  stop line at a red light. Seen some actually driving up to and slightly beyond the traffic light post! Seeking attention in another way. Sad, isn’t it?

I have to admit I am one of those who put my front fogs on as when cars are coming towards me in dips even its so bight I get blinded and cant see the grass verge so need them to show me where its at, its as if the LEDs refract different or something also if you are coming up a hill and dips hit you I also think it takes longer for your eyes to adjust back as its almost piercing blindness and not much you can do about hills.
