Rear wiper replacement

Featured Replies

Sorry it is a mundane query. Having trouble finding how to remove and replace the rear wiper on my 2023 a3 8y. Not a fitment I have come across before and worried about breaking the plastic arm. Any help appreciated.

New after market blades usually have fittings & adaptors together with instructions in the box, from which you should be able to work out which hidden stud or tongue needs to be pressed to remove the originals.

Hi Joe

This might be more helpful:

Step-by-Step Replacement

  1. Lift the Wiper Arm: Carefully pull the rear wiper arm away from the rear windshield until it is held upright by its spring tension. (Optional: Place a folded towel under the arm to protect the glass from accidental scratches.)

  2. Remove the Old Blade: Rotate the wiper blade so it is perpendicular to the wiper arm. Press the locking tab (often located on the underside of the clip) or firmly slide/wiggle the blade downward toward the arm hinge to release it. Carefully pull it off the arm.

  3. Attach the New Blade: Align the new blade’s mounting point with the pin or hook on the wiper arm. Push it firmly until you hear an audible "click" locking it into position.

  4. Final Check: Gently lower the wiper arm back onto the rear window. Never let the metal arm snap back freely against the glass. Run a quick water test or use the washer fluid to ensure it clears smoothly.

There are some videos on YouTube which might also help.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. Videos on YouTube seem helpful and tried a couple of methods but not sufficiently convinced to force anything. Will keep searching and provide feedback in due course.

Replacing wiper blades can seem more daunting than it actually is. It might be worth trying to remove and replace the existing blade as a rehearsal before fitting a new one. Always use a towel to protect the screen.

Easy when you know how. AI got it wrong!! Hold the wiper blade in one hand with your thumb against the blade at the end of the wiper arm and the other hand holding the blade clip. Push with your thumb while pulling the blade clip and it should come loose. Was very tight.

Glad you got sorted.
