aaron_flan
Good Afternoon, I'm new to the forum. I'm looking at a temporary run-around car at the weekend and would like some advice. Its a 2005 B6 Audi A4 3.0tdi S-Line Quattro, it has a full service history (not all main dealer), 200K miles, MOT till June 2018. Also, 18" RS6's, full 2 tone leather, dual climate control, rear park sensors, sat nav, on board computer, roof bars etc. £1,500.00 due to mileage. What is the major problems with these cars? should the oil pump have been replaced by now? what should i look out for in the service history? I've attached advert of the car in question, i'll likely do 7k mile maximum and be selling. I'll like bring a friends diagnostic computer with me and a mechanic if possible. Thanks Aaron Flanagan
niedzial1983
Hi :) i never had a b6 but i have 2006 a6 3.0tdi quattro and there are similarities The 2005 3.0tdi ( engine code BMK) can suffer from cam chain failure. Usualy the top tensioners that are failing first causing a distinctive metalic rattle for 1-2 seconds on cold and warm start. To fix you would be looking around £2k , and if the cam chain fails then your only option to replace engine . This was fixed in late 2006 ASB 3.0tdi Tiptronic gearbox ( with i belive this car has ) is mostly bullet proof but can suffer torque conventer issues. Look for rev surges on engine breaking and gear slip on high revs A vag com (or other) scan for faults is very good idea. Front and back subframe can go rusty quickly Other then that the car will have its usual weakspots. Have a look on youtube, there are plenty of reviews
