georgepamak Posted June 30 Posted June 30 Hi everyone, I'm thinking of buying the new A5 petrol front-wheel drive 204ps model, but I'm not the biggest fan of Hybrid or mild-hybrid cars. Somewhere I read that the whole new A5 series is mild-hybrid, somewhere else that only the A5 Diesel and S5 are mild-hybrid. I didn't manage to find a clear answer from the official site. Does anybody know please?
Steve Q Posted June 30 Posted June 30 Looking on autotrader of 24 models onwards most are not hybrid and all the 204ps ones aren't hybrid. 1
georgepamak Posted July 2 Author Posted July 2 Thanks for your reply. I just read the review in carwow and I think they imply that all new A5 models are mild-hybrid. Don't really know what to believe here.
georgepamak Posted July 3 Author Posted July 3 In the end I'll ask audi, just wondering if someone here already knew.
Delberthot Posted July 3 Posted July 3 I have a 2024 A4 204ps petrol and it has mild hybrid so I'd be surprised if they hadn't carried it over to the new car. If you've had an Audi with mild hybrid in the past then it looks like they've made the energy recovery greater in the newer models. In my 2022 A5 coupe I could feel the car slowing slightly with it when I took my foot off the throttle but that effect is greatly exaggerated in the newer ones. It's not a bad thing, it's just getting used to it. I generally don't brake unless I have to slow down suddenly or for junctions so it took a while to get used to it kicking in. Especially when it decides instead to put the car into neutral and let it coast. I imagine that it's closer to how EVs behave with their energy recovery 1

Don't really know what to believe here. No probs. As I say I went off what's for sake currently on autotrader. And all the ones with 204ps aren't listed as hybrid. But looking at Derek's comment it looks like I could be wrong as he has first hand experience of the A5.
georgepamak Posted July 5 Author Posted July 5 I just got confirmation from Audi that all A5 models come with mild-hybrid technology. Unfortunately this is a deal-breaker for me as I was planning to keep this car for over 10 years and the cost to fix a possible problem with that system is usually way too high.
TheBuell Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) Bought myself one of these, 2.0 (150ps) a few months ago, and I think they're quite nice. It's not a real electric motor like on an hybrid, it's inside the starter motor/alternator and does indeed gives a nice boost. It's at its best during traffic jams. They've improved on that for 2025+ onwards. It becomes MHEV plus. Edited 3 hours ago by TheBuell
