Newer Audi Models - Oil Consumption?
Hi Dan...welcome to the Forum I'm curious as to how the oil consumption was rectified (almost)...what did they do/fit to sort it? Hopefully, Audi have sorted the oil consumption issue with their newest offerings but its worth chatting to the dealers about it. Keep us updated on your potential new purchase Cheers Trevor

Audi A8 Suspension Problem
Hi Peter....welcome to the Forum It sounds very much like there is an unusual fault that being difficult to diagnose does not allow much profit from the repair so I can see why the dealer is quite reluctant to break into a sweat to fix it. Its a case of either throwing huge money at replacing lots of components in the hope that they fall over the fault at some point. If it was my car, I would probably live with the fault if it doesn't have a hugh effect on the handling, etc. I don't think replacing the pump would resolve the issue, however, there could be a leak on one of the air suspension units which could throw up the fault but without codes...possibly? Keep us updated on what you find with this fault Cheers Trevor

The 2017 Thread
a basic remap to smooth the engine out would do....my DTUK Tuning Box just alters the injection pulses to give a much smoother engine torque delivery and with the benefit of increased economy...less turbo boost needed to sustain a good road speed (noticeable by watching the engine load gauge). As long as the engine is healthy then it shouldn't harm anything.

Multitronic delayed pick-up and stalling on hill start
The majority of the feedback through here is that the 'fix' has had adverse effects on engine performance...which is not VW/Audi's primary concern, more to rectify the balls-up with the emissions scandal. I think a Poll would be a great idea Magnet and especially when it comes to specific problem areas, such as performance, economy, EGR, Air Cond...to name a few that I have heard of recently. One way to restore the performance and economy would be a remap which could dial out the EGR issue as well....I wrote an article on the pros & cons of electronically tuning engines, not so much for performance gains but to restore the engine performance to where it should ideally be. http://www.audiownersclub.com/news/reviews/club-reviews/product-reviews/electronic-engine-tuning-guide/ Watch this space as they say.

Newbie about to buy (probably) Sportback
Hi Dave...welcome to the Forum I think this is the best place to find out what an Audi is truly like...'from the horses mouth' as they say. They have their problems like any car on the road nowadays but overall the general consensus is that owners love their Audi. Good luck with the purchase and good to have you onboard. Cheers Trevor

Seats in Sport compared to SE
Probably the best thing to do is if you both go to the dealerships and try out some different models to get an idea of how each seat 'accomodates'....I think that is one thing you definitely cannot compromise on. Took out a Ford Edge for review and was begging to get out of it at the end of the week...an absolutely superb car but the seats were the most uncomfortable seats I have ever encountered. I think the option for upgrade to premium leather seats was around £2500 but considering the actual cost of the car, I definitely would have found a way to factor these into the deal.

Central Locking
Hi Justin...welcome to the Forum As Brad-B5 has stated, loose connection....that is also what I would go for to start with. Check where the wiring goes from the pillar to the door through the flexible trunking and see if there is any broken or chaffed wires where it articulates every time the door opens/closes. Let us know what you find Cheers Trevor

Oil burning problem
Hi Gemma..welcome to the Forum That's really unfortunate that you've experienced these problems with the A4 when you've had a good run with previous Audi's. There are quite a few documented cases of the oil consumption issues on the net and there are also a few posts in this forum on the topic. However, I'm not so sure the dealer will entertain the warranty claim solely because of the number of vehicles it affects, if they accept responsibility it could lead to recalls and with the current emissions scandal going on.... A lot of the problem I personally believe is how the vehicle has been driven previously....I wrote a response to a similar post from a member of this forum highlighting my beliefs about why this occurring and in a nutshell, I would put it down to the piston rings not effectively sealing in the cylinder bores. It is quite common on engines if they are driven on short distances around traffic congested town centres with the engine not achieving normal operating temperatures. If the bore/piston ring wear has not exceeded it's maximum wear threshold then it may be possible to 'bed it in' by taking on longer distance runs and gradually increasing the revs until it starts to settle down with oil consumption. Effectively 'running in' the engine. So, what used to be considered as a good purchase...one owner, low mileage, never thrashed....is generally not as good as a Sales Rep's car driven in at sensible speeds on Motorways at a normal operating temperature. Sorry to not be of much help but this does seem to be a problem that I don't think will go away for some time and I'm not sure there will any resolve from the manufacturers or dealers. Let us know how you get on with this Cheers Trevor

CAN BUS problem potentially
Hi Greg It sounds like there is some sort of issue with the CanBus system randomly kicking out the audio system but that could be due to either the aftermarket head unit or Bluetooth kit interfering with the system. Try getting a copy of ElsaWin, it is the VW, Audi Tech Data system pretty much available from anywhere like eBay or to download. Let us know how you get on with it

Buying a Quattro
The A4 Quattro is indeed a superb car and I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with it. I will look around to see if there are any buyers guides for the car, but if not you'll be best looking for one with full service history from either main dealer or specialist repairer who has replaced the fluids (especially the AWD system fluids) and filters, etc when or even before they were due. I'm sure that such cars exist but you may have to search for some time to get the right one. Red paintwork is always prone to fade if not kept polished and sealed with a good quality wax product. I've always felt like going out in the middle of the night and polishing half of a faded bonnet on someone's car just for the reaction :-) Petrol may be the way forward and could even consider LPG conversion for improving the cost per mile. Good luck with your search

Hi from a Newbie
Hi Mik...welcome to the Forum If it's a holed flexi-hose joining up to the cat, you can replace them by removing it (if fitted with u-clamps) or by cutting off the old ones and welding in new ones. Otherwise, sounds like a great car if that and the wings are the only issues. Cheers Trevor

Need radio code from live radio before I pull it!
Hi William....welcome to the Forum I would contact the local Audi dealer who should be able to supply you with the code for free....VW dealers do. Maybe get the code before disconnecting the live feed, just pull the radio out until you can see the label on it and you need the serial number to get the code (i think also the model number, etc) and proof of ownership (registration documents). Let us know how you get on with it. Cheers Trevor
