2006 audi a3 sline special edition 2.0 fsi (FC/p2261&p0087)
Magnet replied to Highforce's topic in Audi A3 (8P) Forum
Please sit down and give this a good coat of thinking about Jay. To put it bluntly - the seller has no responsibility to pay for the repairs you are going to spend to get done, the car’s mechanical condition was not mentioned in his advert. ‘….see him court….’ I think I’ve made it clear that raising a court case against him will cost you (in caps) money, and you have to work out in your mind whether you are completely confident that the court will find in your favour, but please bear in mind that this is a personal opinion, and obviously differs from yours. For what it’s worth, my advice would be to seek advice - CAB should be able to offer you impartial advice. If it were mine, I would be seriously diluting my ‘claim’ on the seller, and politely asking for some further goodwill contribution to your outgoings. That would be my approach, but I’m not you, and you might like to be determined enough to spend on reports and for an engineer to attend court, based on your belief that you will win. That’s a gamble Jay, but good luck if you decide to go ahead after talking with the CAB. Kind regards, Gareth. -
38k Gearbox Oil Service-2021 2.0 TDI Quattro-Price/Non Audi?
Magnet replied to ykes's topic in Audi A6 (C8) Forum
Hello Johnny, According to the original poster it should be changed at 38k. Yours has now covered over 50k so is overdue. I’m not sure why the ‘..4 months before next service …’ bit. Any reason why they won’t do it now? Kind regards, Gareth. -

Wondering how you are getting on with this Jay -? Kind regards, Gareth. -
Hello Dave, I guess you are talking mud flaps. Have you tried Ali Express ( China). I bought a set from them for a non Audi a couple of years ago, and if I hadn’t seen the packaging before they were fitted, I would not be able to see any difference between the ones I would have bought from a main dealer. You could also register your ‘want’ on one of the on-line car breaker link sites such as Partsfinder - there are more. It would be great if you could share any success with other members. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Dave, What was the tyre size on your 19 inch wheels? Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Jason, Thanks for your latest post, stating that the offending component is the Voltage Stabiliser Regulator fitted to the poster’s vehicle. If Kyle actually replaces this component and the issue isn’t solved, will you be prepared to fully reimburse him his outlay? Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Kyle, To keep it simple, you need to measure any residual discharge at the battery once the car has been locked up, the alarm set, and the whole system has gone to ‘sleep’. As a ball park figure, you would be looking for a drain in excess of around 50mA, if your battery is being discharged via. a parasitic drain. If it has been established that the drain is greater than that, then it becomes a laborious task of removing each fuse in turn until the offending circuit is found. Yes, you could DIY it if you have the correct meters to do it, but it may be one of those tasks left to a a trusted local autoelectrician. Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. Any of this maybe influenced by water/ moisture ingress.

Radiator fans / Coolant temp sensor / Thermostat issues
Magnet replied to SteveR83's topic in Audi A3 (8P) Forum
Hello Stephen and welcome. If this were mine, I would treat this on a one thing at one time principle. Not reaching temperature is typical of a failing/failed thermostat, so that would need investigating and then renewing to ensure the car is operating at the optimum temperature. Once it’s operating at 90 degrees, you can then set in motion a plan of action for the remaining issues. Kind regards, Gareth. -
Hello Wesley, Judging by your photo, it seems the nearby vertical chrome trim is also coming away slightly. Slight impact damage? The displaced horizontal bar is now distorted, and any attempt to set in back into its original place/seating, may result in it being under stress. Only you would know that, by its resistance to seat where it should, so you would need to test that. If indeed it will be under stress then it would be wise to carefully heat it with a hair dryer and gently reshape it until it’s happy to sit where it should. It would be well worth cleaning the area to be re-stuck with some meths beforehand. Once you are happy the trim will sit back comfortably where it was, you can stick it with Tigerseal adhesive sealer. Again it would be good to mask off the trim edge and surrounds, so that the excess Tigerseal does not stick where you don’t want it to. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello David, You could try Audi Parts Direct at Cardiff - part of Mon Motors - originally Cardiff Audi. You might be lucky and get a small discount, but as I understand it, even the true Trade discount is not what it used to be, although every little helps! They do mail order. Kind regards, Gareth.

Sorry Jason, Your latest post editing has just succeeded in totally confusing an already confused thread - due to your earlier post editing! As politely as I can ask you:- With the exception of typos - please do not edit any posts once you have posted them, so carefully consider what you are posting before you press the button - Please. Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. No need to respond to this and protract the dialogue.

Hello Jason, You appear to be editing your posts, so that the thread of our exchanges and my request to you to dilute your ‘claim’ to one of ‘In my opinion’ has been lost, making it disjointed. Please stick with your initial reactions, or request one of the Moderators to consider any non-typo type amendments you subsequently wish to make. Kind regards, Gareth.

Thanks Aadam, Obviously your choice, but if it were mine, I would be carrying out my test before embarking on any expenditure. Kind regards, Gareth. -

Hello Jay, As I said before , I really do feel for you, but please don’t lose sight of the fact that:- The seller did not make any claim to this vehicle being free from any mechanical issues. You were given an opportunity to assess that aspect for yourself, and you did, and you bought it. You have since had work done on the car which now renders it different from what the seller sold you. If it were mine, I would not be spending any more money on it, if your hope is to reclaim that expenditure back from the seller. The reality is that you really don’t have much of a chance of that being successful, but I could be wrong, and this is why I suggest you should seek advice from CAB, before proceeding further. Kind regards, Gareth. -
Help needed please - hole in the fuel tank area
Magnet replied to Adz8's topic in Audi A4 (B9) Forum
Sorry to say it as I see it Jason, but oh blinking heck! The ‘grometed’ hole , with an associated drain off tube, is there simply to allow rain water which will flow into the recessed fuel filler chamber to escape. If it gets blocked, rain water will collect within the flap- covered filler chamber. Possible reason for the extra hole? See -guess - in earlier post. Kind regards, Gareth. -
Thanks Zoe, How long have you had the car, and has it been like this from the time you had it? Kind regards, Zoe.
-
Thanks Lee, Could you please post the prices you want for each item please. Many thanks, Gareth.

Hello Aadam, Is the grommet hole ( the original drain) clear of any blockage? Have you tried pushing some suitable size flexible cable/wire down that hole to test that? A guess? The original hole is bricked, and someone has decided to drill another drain hole alongside -? Kind regards, Gareth. -
Hello Zoe, Although the compression test has revealed a significant ‘mechanical’ issue with the engine, at least it has eliminated the need to waste money on injectors etc. to no avail. I notice the reference to a warranty, which was not known about before. Does that mean you have only recently purchased the car - or the warranty? I think the all important progressive next move is to obtain copy of the compression test results, and to start a written exchange with the warranty company. As always, we can only advise on an ‘if it were mine’ situation, and if it was, I would certainly discontinue any DIY mechanics on this car. It could leave you open to debate as to whether any faults have been aggravated by your ( partner’s) actions. Perhaps you could keep us up to date Zoe, and if we can help, we will. Good luck in getting it sorted. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Jason, I wonder if you would like to ‘dilute’ your claim that the best fuel to use is Shell, by prefixing it with something like ‘In my opinion’, since members follow advice based on the principle of what is written is indeed fact. It would be surprising to read that Shell would openly claim that their brand of fuel is the ‘Best’. Perhaps you would consider editing this post accordingly, or on the basis of reasonable claim, I can edit the post if you would prefer. Kind regards, Gareth.

Many thanks Martin. Having owned a 1947 Wolseley 12hp, I guess you are familiar with Classic car insurance, whereby you can insure a c20 year old car, which is used on a limited mileage basis, and you can generally benefit from an agreed values, breakdown etc., since this car isn’t your sole means of transport. You would need to shop around ( I would do this by phone) the brokers you would find via. a Google search for Classic Car Insurance. Be prepared to find they might not be too keen on insuring a 20 year old A2, but just keep trying. Let us know how you get on Martin. Kind regards, Gareth.
