tips for snow
1st tip would be to qualify every journey - do you really need to go out? If you do have to venture out then do you have a shovel, blanket, tow rope, flask etc. You may be able to drive in snow but many cannot resulting in roads getting blocked and drivers stranded. WRT the actual driving of the car - keep speed low, steering and braking smooth and remember 4x4 will get you going better than 2WD but we are all 4 wheel braking when the need arises. ABS is great but when there is minimal traction then you will end up with a buzzy glide into the hedgerow.

Headlight washers.
Hi Gareth, I have seen the gelling effect you have experienced but not for a few years now the last time being in my 740 Volvo that seldomly got used. I have always ran the washers to empty recently and have not used tap water to dilute concentrate buying premixed. 5 litres of screenwash does not last long when the headlights also get a periodic shower too. I have experienced the "algae" buildup in diesel tanks in Africa too and the only option with them is to empty and steam clean them before replenishing, traces of the contaminant will only spawn more gloop. If I had the issue with screen washers now I would use a mild milton solution and flush the system through.

Headlight washers.
So Audi Bristol had the car yesterday. Turns out it was grime in the mechanism. It's a fairly complex assembly just to spray fluid on headlamps and this is possibly its downfall. In my defense and answering the question - I always use concentrated screen wash with "claimed" protection down to -15 Deg C. This is not only for antifreeze properties but also for an effective non streaking clean. While it was in Audi they also gave it the inspection treatment. Front tyres down to 3.6mm, Front brakes 70% worn and all three wiper blades needing replacing. I am beginning to think they think I am a lottery winner. £98 for wiper replacement. Near £600 for front brake renewal and around £450 for 2 new front tyres that do not need changing. I suppose grand surroundings require grand invoices. At least the car got a wash. Every cloud and all that

Has anyone had a towbar fitted to their A7?
The A7 is fully prepped for towing. With The correct towbar fitment the car will consider the trailed load and also interact with trailer stability aids. Look at the A7 as an A6 with fancy clothes on and I can see no reason why it should be viewed as unsuitable. I myself would have reservations buying a second hand car with a towbar on from any manufacturer due to probable additional wear and tear on drivetrain Although I would consider owning a car with a towbar.

Headlight washers.
So fault is persistent even during milder weather. Drove back from Reading Sunday evening - outside temperature was around 10 deg C, pulled up at home and there it was sticking out again. Have booked the car into Audi Bristol on Monday for investigation. When they told me the soonest they could see my car was Feb 15th I did raise an eyebrow. Did mention Car was last serviced by them and this is a warranty fault and the wait time reduced from 1 month to 1 week. Will let you know the outcome.

Note I did not push the washer back in - as soon as i prodded it - it popped back in.

A6 bi-tdi possible gearbox issues, won't drive
Your BiTDi will have the Multitronic Gearbox- Sorry cant help with location of connector and the coolant control valve. Agree with Steve Q regarding the oil change regime of the gearbox but your cars random behaviour smacks of electrical signal vagaries. So many components connected by CanBus - the slightest shift in voltages on signal lines will cause all sorts of gremlins

Headlight washers.
I have just noticed the same issue over the past couple of days. One question I do have is if it is freezing fluid then why do they pop in readily when prodded? I accept that with wind chill included the temp may drop way below the stated protection figure stated on the SW Bottle but has it really been that cold? I am looking into it at the moment. Last night was mild in the SW so I did not expect mine to be out this morning when I stopped for fuel but it was. I suspect there is a grime build up on the slides the jets actuate along.

Navigation issues
Not thick at all. GPS receiver is normally the Shark Fin towards the rear of the roof of the car. Not a lot you can do to visually check condition. To remove it you will need to drop the headlining to get to the fittings. GPS Antennas are normally of "active" type so will have around 3VDC running up the core. May be a PITA but first check for me would be to check for 3VDC output on rear of MMI unit and also for any short circuit on antenna lead. I have no experience with Audi MMI so where this connects and the actual impedance / voltage of the Antenna I cannot confirm. I do not suppose there is a tracker blocker operating in the car?

Navigation issues
You may want to check your GPS antenna connections and also Antenna condition- if you do not detect a minimum of 3 Sats then location is impossible to calculate

A5 auto box info?
£225.91 - that was after negotiating a discount with Bristol Audi... fi you are buying new one consideration would be a service pack but you would need to check if Auto Box is included in the package

A5 auto box info?
My A6 has the 7 Speed S-tronic and it is the smoothest quickest changing auto I have ever experienced. BUT it does need servicing with an oil and filter change every 40K Miles I think with complexity comes unreliability if they do not get a fresh dose of oil and filter change periodically. The oil change is a specialist operation with the box having to be in temperature range when done so not a home job so budget this into your running cost expectations. With the manual you have the Dual Mass Flywheel to consider... Flappy Paddle gear changes - gearbox performance modes and as mentioned before, the near unnoticeable gear changes make theS-tronic box very attractive.

New Owner Help movies sim card etc
As above - you will not see tyre pressures but once manually checked store the values in the system and it will ping when it alters SIM slot if fitted would be between the SD card slots under MMi pop up panel - what level of MMi do you have?

Cam belt change
Unless you have a raft of paperwork from who maintained the car since Audi lost sight of it or the previous owner left a load of receipts in a folder with the car then I would say no. Maybe if you locate where the previous owner lived and then look up Audi independents in the area you may find out something there (if they keep records). With your car being 2010 model and the trail going cold in 2012 I would suspect that the previous owner could not qualify the cost of Audi FSH one the 3 year warranty was up.

Cam belt change
If in doubt change it out - if the belt lets go then things are going to get very expensive.

Audi Q8 infotainment gets in ENGINEERING mode!
With the Q8 being so new I would imagine the infotainment to be fresh and crispy too. Like with all things software wait a few weeks and the developers will be getting feedback from the field (You are a beta tester) and start on an update that you will be invited to try. Not unusual and quite frequent if you are a user of windows or iOS products. Best thing to do is report it with the maximum of background information you can include. This will expedite a SW patch

2.7tdi or 3.0tdi Quattro?
Have not owned one but a Mate did and he found the 3.0 a lot more economical and with lower emissions being a newer unit.

A6 Brakes
Do you have the electronic handbrake? Rear pads need winding back in electronically using OBD interface. Fronts should not be a problem.

First suspect is the bonnet alarm switch- check the contacts using a multi-meter

Humming noise from dash
Update: So I have solved the problem. I was wrong (not for the first time many would say) in thinking it was a Fan. So the noise was audible when I entered the car without ignition on and also when it was on. It is rare with the Solid State media such as SD Card and USB Drive that I had a disk in the MMi optical drive but my Son had inserted a DVD Movie a while back. The noise I was hearing was the DVD spinning up when I was entering the car and hesne why a knock in the right area stopped the resonation. I still wonder why the disk would spin up without the ignition on but I guess unlocking the car and a door opening is enough reason for some. Anyhow - job done for now - time to put the paranoia back in the box until next time...

Coming Back
My 2.0 A6 drinks it like its Happy Hour too - must have put 50 litres in in 25K miles - next service due soon - so will have a word. Not looking forward to being financially raped for the next service though. 38000 miles = Major Service, Gearbox Oil Change, Brake Fluid Change, Aircon service. Had a lovely young lady tell me it would be £1050 - a bargain! TBH I am thinking get the Engine and Gearbox services done by Audi and the rest done by a local "specialist" Was told there is a Pano roof service in the schedule and if post '16 car then the Aircon service is more as it has "special" gas. If I could wait until March next year then I could save a load as you get the same services for less on cars over 3 years - still trying to work that one out ...

Possibly most trivial post ever.
Mine has done this in the past - I would put it down to either a software bug or a signal not getting through You will notice that it does not normally retract until you open the door to exit the vehicle - either the impulse created by opening the door does not get to the microprocessor that controls the servos driving the display mechanism or the Software logic had a void in it that can sometimes (only sometimes) does not handle the command to retract the screen leaving it in the deployed position. TBH I would worry more about SUB 3 year servicing costs - Just been quoted £1050 for a 38000 mile service! Car is 3 at end of Jan and it would be near £750. Why are Audi cheaper when they are 3 years plus?
