  1. Welcome to the forum Gurdeep, you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch :)

As the others have said, this is normal and is just the Diesel particulate filter doing a regeneration. This basically helps keep the dpf clear and stops it clogging with soot.

  2. Hi James welcome to the forum :)

My first port of call would be to check the key fob batteries. If you have checked that then I'm wondering if your car battery is on its way out? Once batteries start to fail they cause unusual electrical issues. Getting the battery checked would be my next suggestion. The usual life expectancy of a battery is approx 7 years, but they can last up to 10.

The other 2 things I can think of is either the central locking module is on its way out or the drivers door locking mechanism is also failing. The drivers door mechanism controls the rest of the central locking. However I believe these 2 faults would show up on a diagnostic check.

    Sorry I can't help more.

  3. Hi Russell, welcome to the forum you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch :)

I believe the dash inserts just clip into the dash but you'll probs need to remove switch gear and other items that are around the inserts.

I've found this video on YouTube on how to remove the dash on a b9 which may be useful.

ACC requires 2 infra red lasers / sensors to be fitted to the front bumper - which allows the car in front distance from mine  to be gauged and registered.

So thats not on the plan of action now!

Don't blame you! Plus acc can be expensive to fix if it goes wrong! I'm sure the camera is around £400 if I'm not mistaken. And if it needs resetting then you have to do a 4 wheel alignment.

    Steve,

yes the batteries in the fobs are old. I've always suspected them for peculiar oddities. The battery under the bonnet has never been flat but I've had a dashboard message saying the battery needed a long run. Hmmm. I'll try new fob batteries tomorrow. Hope it's a simple fix. Thanks for the advice.

    You're welcome :)

Sounds like a plan. Change the fob batteries and then check the date on the car battery to see how old it is. The average life expectancy of a battery is around 7 years so if it is older than this, then it is probably due to be changed. Please keep us posted on how you get on :)

You're welcome Kurt. As I say, if you have bought the a3 from a dealer then this should be your first place to turn.

  7. Welcome to the forum Gerard, you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch :)

The first thing I'd recommend, if you haven't do e already is change the key fob batteries. My second recommendation is having a diagnostic check carried out to see what fault codes flag up.

One thing it could be is the central locking module but as a way out thought, when was your battery last changed?

If it's an old battery then this could be causing some of the electrical systems to play up. Has the car gone flat lately? Or have you found any other electrical oddities which could help suggest it's the battery at fault?

The first thing id recommend you do is contact the seller. I'm assuming it's a garage and as such they should be looking at it for you.

You'll.need at diagnostic check carried out to see what the fault is. Did the car look accident damaged at all?

On the other hand it could be as simple as a loose wire. On the previous model of a3 (8p) and some other older Audi models the passenger seat airbag wire would could loose and this would cause the airbag light to come on. This wire was situated under the passenger seat. It might be worth a look to see if any wires are loose.

    Sorry I can't help more.
