Audi to idle 10,000 workers as chip shortage continues - report
German carmaker Audi will idle 10,000 staff for the second time in a matter of months due to the ongoing semi-conductor shortage. Workers at the firm’s factories in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm will see their hours shorten as production is slowed at the sites, German newspaper Handelsblatt reported. The slowdown will come into effect next week. A spokesperson said that Audi had not yet taken a decision on what it would do in June. Back in January the firm had to furlough the same number of workers due to the shortage, which has hammered car giants around the world. Barely a marque has been untouched by the dearth, which was the result of a surge in demand for electrical items such as laptops, mobiles, and tablets during lockdown. This week Volkswagen said it would suspend production at its plant in Chattanooga in Tennessee due to the issue. Consultants Alix Partners have predicted that the shortfall will cost global carmakers $110bn in total this year. And some semiconductor makers have warned that the crisis will likely last into 2022, prompting politicians to look for other means to address the issue. Earlier this week outgoing German chancellor Angela Merkel said she was worried about Europe’s dependence on foreign-made chips. “If a big bloc like the EU is not in position to create chips, I am not comfortable about that,” she told a summit on the future of innovation in Germany. “It is not good if you are a car nation and you cannot produce the core component.” https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.cityam.com/audi-to-idle-10000-workers-as-chip-shortage-continues-report/amp/

Replacing parts on my A3
Yea looks like rust. Regarding the headlights, can't you just source the rubbers? Yea I'm in the same situation with the central locking. Like mine then being in good condition. Just trying to get mine fully done up ready for the august show season ☺️

$5000! That's crazy money. I'd definitely be expecting them to honour it.

Replacing parts on my A3
Hi there 🙂 Regarding headlights, be careful as the law has recently changed. Most aftermarket (upgraded) headlights are no longer legal. If the lens has gone Milky coloured you could always try rubbing tooth paste on it with a tooth brush to try and clear it up a little. Regarding rust on the doors, I'm in the same boat and gave this on my a6 c5. Will be taking it to a body shop once its back from the auto electrician. But I have seen worse case scenarios as per the pics 😬 Regarding central locking you might find it's the driver's door module, my a6 has just had this replaced but is having further work done regarding be the alarm (auto electrician). The module controls all the central locking. I can let you know the cost of this once my cars back. Regarding a remap, make sure you go to a professional that has a rolling road for best results. Make sure the cars in good health too. Cheers Steve

Malfunctioning convertible top
Definitely frustrating. Needs to go to main dealer for diagnostic work in my opinion. But don't hold your breath on any payout from warranty company
