  1. There are two answers here, yes and no. In theory you can change a head gasket on many engines while leaving the cam in site if all the head bolts are accessible which I believe they are on you engine (but I may be corrected here), on inspection if all looks good with the head face after a gentle clean up then it could be refitted. So in theory yes it could be left in situ. However, on a car that age I would want the face of the head skimmed by a couple of thou to try ensure a problem free future. In this case it would be good practice to have the head completely stripped, skimmed and then cleaned before reassembly. Do you know if the garage skimmed the head?
  2. Sounds like either the turbo or the IC (intercooler) has blown. However, if is rapidly drinking oil it pointing toward the turbo seals have gone. Is there an obviously oil deposits in the tailpipe?
  3. It sounds like 'limp mode'. If it does this again, pull over and switch engine off and then restart it. If it drives normal again it really does point to a fault causing it to go to limp mode. Unless you left the handbrake on??? even though you didn't see a warning light it my be worth having the codes read to see if a fault code has been logged.
  4. Mr Q has a Mrs Q now. Congrats mate!! i still have the Mag for you here, sorry I forgot to post it, genuinely have had so few minutes to spare. Plus been dealing with schools and Police because my daughter has been quite badly bullied. I do not like Snapchat......... it's a bullying platform and other reasons. Me no likey!!

The 18's should fit fine. Try it first though!?! Only thing you should notice is the speed on dash will be closer to the sat nav as the rolling radius will increase slightly. If they are in good nick and aren't to expensive they will be a good buy.
  6. Oh yeah, I like the sound of the 5 more working days till Xmas. Currently doing between 12-18hrs a day including driving/traveling. Just shattered. So sleeping tomorrow morning!! Lol. Friends over tomorrow night and the Dark fruit cider will come out to play and maybe a festive Baileys too ;-) We have had a bit of snow up here and last weekend I took the A6 out for a play in the white stuff. Big smiles ear to ear. The Quattro system works very well in it, the Uniroyals have half decent grip too!
  7. Which ever car you get you will love it. The C6 is a lovely car. While I own a 2.7TDI it's only because I have wanted the V6 2.7 for several years now and don't regret buying it. The 3.0 version has about 40bhp more but seems to be slightly more problematic than the 2.7 but that may just be because more 3.0's have been sold, therefore more to report back on!?! Comparing the the 2.7 to the 2.0 though is a funny one. The power output is very similar -170 -180bhp but the V6 is smother while you have to keep the 2.0 in the 'sweet spot' while accelerating. The only re-occurring issue I am aware of is the turbo can go around 60-70k (experienced this in 2 out of 3 2.0 in the past). Then the common fault with all Dervs is the DPF regen issues. Pot luck on that one but in my mind gives a great excuse to blast the engine from time to time. I choose a higher spec C6 a couple years older, the only real difference between them is the lights. Will it bug you that you can tell your car is a pre facelift? Then by the newer car. If you would prefer leather, sat nav heated seats etc etc then buy the older car. mine now has 167k on it and is still pulling like a train 🚂. No regrets at all. Hope that helps a bit.
  8. I would highly recommend contacting a company called Absolut5. While they specialise in VW Transporters they will be most helpful with your issue. not all of the harnesses are wired the same. My guess is the 12v supply is in an incorrect pin on one of the plugs. I had this on a previous T5. Much easier to get the correct harness rather than swapping wires. good luck.
  9. That's ok then, still maybe best to try one first for clearance to be sure. Happy days though as 16's are much cheaper to buy.👍

    DPF?

But if you go to manual or use the flappy paddles you can enjoy each gear for a bit longer, good for DPF throat clearing. Do it in mine quite often.
  11. Sorry, for the 16's you have many choices of winters. BF Goodrich are a very good brand.BUT I think the wheels themselves will be too small for your callipers, i.e. Not going to actually clear them when you try to put the wheel on. I would look at 17's or even better18's mate to be safe!!
  12. Hi mate and welcome to the forum. just traveling through the Cairngorms now!! (I am not actually driving though but being driven lol). There are a few ways at looking at winter driving up here, I have several and in the past owned several front wheel drive cars and have always fitted winter tyres. I have tried several brands but cannot recommend enough Michelin Alpins. The grip they have is just second to none. Plus I constantly get above 25k out of a set. However, on my Quattro I only have normal tyres (Uniroyal Rain sport III's). Again I can't recommend these enough, have them on my T5 and the girlfriends sporty Maxzda 3. I have found that these are good enough for me for grip with the Quattro in all conditions. BUT, under braking this is where they are not quite as good as the winters. However, what is more important is keeping the same brand of tyres on the front two wheels and the same on the back two, even better if all 4 are the same brand. The 4x4 sensors behave them selves much better!! More traction. I hope that all makes sense. in summary, stick to same brands at any one time if you can. Decide on a winter tyre and then see if it is available in the wheel size you are considering. Smaller the better really. The Alpins BTW are available for the size you have suggested. I am sure I had them fitted to some 19's I had on a Sporty Insignia I had a short while back.

    DPF?

Matrix. That was the word I was looking for!
  14. Dan3222

    DPF?

And surely the filler cap?? Lol. i do think yours has one fitted BTW, if you do a search for DPF or DPF/CAT, it comes up with 2007-2012 for your model!?! But who knows? look at it this way, just go thinking you have one, therefore you are being kinder to the environment every time you use your motor. Ooooooooo, and it gives you the excuse to put pedal to metal in 3rd gear more often to burn the clogged filter/mesh internals clean!! 😈
  15. Dan3222

    DPF?

To identify one BTW, you need to look at the down pipe on the car, there will be small silencer as close to the engine as possible. It has to be close so that it can warm up quickly to start working ASAP. I am interested to know know if mine has one or not??

    DPF?

That surprises me TBH gents, I would have thought any derv post 2006 would have a DPF, especially a VAG vehicle. So if yours doesn't then everyday is a school day as they say. 😃
  17. As Mr Q has said don't be scared, even if it is the turbo on its way out the car will drop into limp mode, pull over and stop the engine, switch it back on and it should drive as normal for a while. That's a worse case scenario though mate. there is a good chance the emissions warning light coming on is linked, this is actually potentially good news because the ECU should have logged a fault, so when you get it scanned it should point you in the right direction. However my stab in the dark is the intercooler is on its way out!?! Not betting on it though..
  18. Does your engine have an EGR cooler? I have known of vehicles with a break in the welds allowing water to very very slowly leak into the exhausts system, causing a white smoke which takes a wee while to dissipate. Once the engine warms up, say 4-5 mins, the exhaust gasses are usually hot enough to fully evaporate any water in the system hence clearing the white smoke effect. Irronically enough, I had a 2.0 TDI on a 58 plate that I had to top up the coolant every 3-4 weeks, this was from new too. Audi said it was to slow a leak to diagnose the source and even blamed my driving style..... creaky bugg-ers. But saying that they could fix any problem, I did 125k in that car with no other issues except a new turbo at 65k. good luck
  19. Not sure I will be able to help directly here but give us some more information, what's the tuning box you bought and maybe post a picture of it too.
  20. What mileage is she on now? If you force a regen a few times you should easily get the same again if not more.
  21. Cars do eventually reach a point where they are getting expensive to fix, if you need them as a daily runner rather than an occasional use toy!! Be patient for your A5, I am predicting any car with a Diesel engine will drop significantly in price as diesels are to disappear from the 'new' sale forecourts. I hate the government for their backward and contradicting views!! I am using the A6 a bit more this year, only did 5,000 miles in first year of ownership. I just love the drive, a great combination of a derv V6 and slush box. Big smiles all round.
  22. Lol, me too. Just don't seem to have a spare 5 mins any more!!
  23. Regards vinyl wrapped, message niedzial1983. He has done a panel or too and it looks good. Regarding the tinting though, to get a perfect finish I can only recomend getting a pro to do it. It's not bank breaking pennies either. I pro job will look much better and will not be embarrassing as it's very very difficult to ge all the air bubbles out.
  24. Easiest thing to do is put new pads on the rears. But if not new cables as they may just be stretched. Either fix us not expensive though!
