  1. Hi no because it puts pressure on the output shaft bearing on the gearbox, technically the PB should hold especially with new discs and pads in august fitted them myself so I know all was correct, all BREMBO and no problems for the last 12k, what's the point of paying all that money for a car with a suspect handbrake system, I wouldn't mind but I had a cab test beginning of January this includes an mot and the PB ratings were well within spec Steve,
  2. Hi yes its all part of the pre check cycle for the lights on the dash.
  3. Hi Plusgas and have you checked for a locking bolt.
  4. Hi just looked at parts diagram and you are right its attached to the lift pump and looks like a right faf to change you have to remove the rear seat bottom to get at it and chances are if you have no record of it being changed its the original and just to add joy to the job there are three different types, consulted the garage I use and they said it is most likely cause of your problem, you will also need some new plastic fixings for the rear seat as the old ones are single usage, what a cr@p design most other models are fitted under the floor on the drivers side. Steve.
  5. Hi the fuel pump has a screen in it to stop big debris I am talking about the actual fuel filter its self in the engine bay. Steve.
  6. Hi therefore it could be the lift pump as if thats gone the sensor on the HPFP picks that up as its being starved of fuel, have you checked/changed the fuel filter recently as if its old or blocked that would cause issues.
  7. Hi go on LLL carports put in your VIN and scroll through exhaust listings that should give you the diagram, if its one of the early CN engines it will be under the cat.
  8. Hi it could be a weak lift pump in the tank or a problem with the fuel regulator on the fuel rail even a wrong fuel filter standard 4bar performance 6bar.
  9. Hi if you publish the codes and symptoms that would help a great deal.
  10. Hi the Americans are bang on it just like Mercedes, BMW, Audi have these built in problems that they are aware of and just hope we will all go away, the reason the dealers are so reluctant to change anything is that the parent company Audi will do everything in there power to shaft the dealer for the repair money for both labour and parts cost, had this years ago when I had a MK4 MONDEO which developed an oil leak which was spraying all over the turbo, at first they refused to honour the warranty because the. garage I use at my request had used Millers XFF oil which they claimed was inferior so I rang Millers and they sent a technical rep down who explained that XFF exceeded the pass rates of Ford oil so therefore it was actually superior to Fords own oil and further buried them by explaining Millers had just started supplying oil for the new RS Focus, so the dealer rapidly back tracked and did the job, they had the car for eight days, when I told my local garage they said they do the same job three or four times a week and it takes three hours, common problem apparently, yes they are lovely to drive, solid and well built in most areas but the company that builds them are profiteering scum, unless all the owners with these problem club together and take them to court this situation will persist. Steve.
  11. Hi I am pretty sure Monroe do these added bonus MONROE are o.e., just get the part number off the old unit and go hunting.
  12. Hi go on the chat and general discussion part of the forum at the top of the page before the car version lists.
  13. Hi thank you, I remember about fifteen years ago going to my mates house for a Chinese takeaway, while we were waiting he took me down to his garage to show me the Ducati 998 he had bought, only just over a year old, when I remarked it stank of petrol he replied that he had noticed that but couldn't find the source, so me being fascinated started a small inspection, I soon found the cause due to the slight bubble in the paint on the tank around the stop !Removed! for the fuel which when piped released a small drop of fuel, he had drained the tank while the cold weather was here but the previous owner obviously hadn't and there was a patch of rot inside the tank around the stop !Removed! entry, new tank no paint or decals £1800 paint and decals +£500. so we drained the tank got rid of as much of the rust as possible and coated the area with an epoxy fuel tank repair, two months later he sold the Ducati and bought a BMW R80. Will be staying on the forum, STEVE.
  14. Hi Gareth many thanks, my main gripe with Audi is their myopic refusal to make any part a bit more user friendly price wise and once having got you on the hook quoting at least five days back order, Skoda parts are cheaper but Seat have made their cars cheaper to buy, all the rage down my end are KIA and Hyundai and to be fair second hand the Kia is not to pricey but the parts demand blood money, Having done intensive research in my new free time the Passat is the size I need and a clutch for the 2.0 is around £500 including flywheel the engine is used in the Q3 but quote that when buying parts from Audi the clutches and timing belts double in price, its badge engineering at its worst I would class it as a form of badge racism, as in your case they shut down every avenue of escape, its all about control. I loved the car but should you be prepared to pay over £1500 for the clutch parts, its not a BENTLY. Regards Steve. Steve.
  15. Hi there are two thermostats one on the water pump which is prone to sticking open, if its a cn engine and has the solid inlet manifold the other thermostat is under that that one controls the cabin heat and you can change it without removing the manifold just buy a new core unit and seal, I did mine on my A6 similar engine it fiddly but doable, also posted pics of parts and how to in the A6 C7 part of the forum. Steve.
  16. Hi gents, Sunday I was half way through my shift when I pulled in to get some diesel at my local BP I filled the car up went round to the drivers door to get some money out of my change dispenser then closed the door locked it and went to pay, got my receipt and trolled off to use the loo, when I came out the whole forecourt was going garraty and the car was gone, apparently the car had rolled off on its own down the ramp and across the road into a wall/hedge on the other side, the handbrake had failed to hold and let go when I got in the passenger seat the handbrake activation light was on, been driving me mad to find the reason, the pads and discs were renewed in august plenty left on pads and discs, went on the net and found a couple of people who had the same thing with A6 Avant all within the build dates 2011-2018 both manuals both garage forecourts, today they wrote the car off, sad it happened but in a way glad of the end result as over the last couple of years I have become thoroughly disillusioned with the company over the eyewaterinw price of the parts and the lack of availability of parts, look at the adblue pipe fiasco which ranged from they don't make them anymore to they are waiting to find a new supplier, on a seven year old car, really, my clutch needed replacing so we had £160 slave cylinder £300 for the pressure plate and driven plate, new seals £50 and £800 for the flywheel all + vat, you can't get any of the parts even though they are now available through aftermarket as Shaeffler reckon they don't have them to supply the aftermarket suppliers but the dealers have loads at twice the price, funny that, then we come to the pipes some of which you can only get from the dealers I was about to fork out for another feed pipe from the clutch master cylinder to the slave cylinder, two and a half feet at most £160 all in, then we have their labour charges, its not the car I loved it, its the totally corrupt profiteering that lies behind it I think they are trying to push us literally into buying the new Hybrid/electric models then they can have a field day with everyones wallet, my neighbours 15 plate A4 got hit by another neighbour which dented the door so it needs a new door they told her today they are writing it off because they can't get a new door for eight months and the repair plus the courtesy car rental will come to over £10000, its all premium brand mythology with premium prices, if you look back to the seventies Audis were very cheap to try and get a foothold in the British market and they were very good cars but no one was queuing to buy them, they marketed them on an affordable alternative to cars like the Granada,Vauxhall Viscount, Rover, they seem to have lost their way with the statement that they only want to produce cars for the premium market, people with loads of money, me I am glad I am out my next cab will be a Skoda/Passat the parts oe are half the price and plentiful which is what I need, I will stay on the forum as I have a reasonable knowledge of Diesel/Petrol Audis but I wont be going back to own another one. Steve.
  17. Hi its probably a built in function as most oils only give maximum protection when at optimum temp, some of the new Bentlys, Alfa Romeos and Feraris have stickers in the car telling you to warm the engine at idle for at least ten mins before driving, I would get that drive system light checked its yellow so not urgent but the gearbox has nothing to do with the engine temp, in saying that the oldest saying in the car world is NEVER REV A COLD ENGINE, thats because of the damage it causes to internal revolving surfaces which have yet to heat up to operating tollerences, cold oil at high rpm is as bad as no oil only in reverse, I found that out a few years ago in the eighties when at massive cost I built a go faster Mini engine, billet steel crank lightened con rods, super Hepolite pistons the works, my only downfall was jacking the oil pressure relief valve so it ran at 95psi when warm, two months later I had big end knock where the oil cold ran at over 100psi and had washed the coating off of the end shells, moral of the story most cars are quite happy with oil pressure of around 40psi as long as the oil temp is at optimum. Steve.
  18. Hi thank you for that information, I did not know of that situation, just shows you you can learn something new every day,WELL DONE that man.
  19. Hi you should never put a kink in any part of the washer pipe as this will cause all sorts of problems the pipes are routed with gentle bends and you will never lose pressure because both circuits from the pump have anti drain-back valves so when the pump is not being used the valves shut to maintain the pressure, example, last summer one of my cab colleagues could only get his washers to work at the front with the bonnet up, turns out he had replaced all the feed tubes with silicone hoses but forgotten to do each section against the old pipe so the one that went to the tank was about 10mm to short and kinked when he closed the bonnet, thats how critical it is.
  20. Hi the part number will be on the control box thats attached to the fan pack down between the fans, some you can change just the box others have the box built in to the fan pack so you have to buy the whole thing.
  21. Hi if it aint broke don't fix it, just treat it with a bottle of EGR cleaner every so often or buy a litre of Dipetane and use that in the fuel that will clean the whole system, with regard to the inlet valves don't go anywhere near them as if you dislodge any crud any small particle can stick to the valve seat and kill your engine, if you do get problems with the EGR just replace it in view of the cost they work out pretty cheap as if its the same as the engine in the picture they are a Valeo unit and its the control box that fails. Steve.
  22. Hi if you contact a silicone hose manufacturer they can make you another hose, I had this back last summer with the tiny cooling hoses that run between the manifold and throttle body, Audi actually had these but one hose was£38 the other four were similar prices so found a place locally wheeled them up there and they produced the whole set with the correct bends and new clips for £60, all armoured, very happy. Steve
  23. Hi the Haldex system works on viscous couplings in the rear differential that react by transferring the power to the wheels that are gripping its a complex system that can even transfer the power split between the front and rear wheels or engage a form of four wheel drive so when the car is cornering say left sharp bend it will transfer more power to the off side to maintain the stability based on information from the yaw sensor mounted on the transmission tunnel at the front, thats the basics, if the coupling plates deteriorate/fail it throws the whole system out, filings in the oil would confirm failure which is normally caused by non existent oil changes every 25k the filter inside the unit ruptures and throws all the bits it has collected in to the oil damaging the viscous plates, this is a high maintenance system, in my honest opinion the BMW X Drive system is superior but wears tyres at an alarming rate but on the plus side is not prone to maintenance failure, think the replacement will solve your problems but just be aware of the oil change intervals also factoring in driving style. Steve.
  24. Hi I thought you might have one you made earlier hidden somewhere, I totally endorse your sentiments, but I can honestly say that the myth of premium brand will not bear close scrutiny, yes the paint and leather seats first class but as for the rest of it, the same as any other manufacturers they go wrong and are very complex to diagnose and fix and unless Audi get their customer service act together they will lose many customers, allied to their starship parts prices it is not good, just as an exercise I priced a new engine for mine on ETKA £12000 +vat for a bare engine, thats over half the price of a good late A6 second hand as for the legendary full service history its not worth the paper its printed on, look at the guys that have posted about 2-3 year old cars serviced by Audi and found the air filters have never been changed since new and when asked they reply thats extra or thats not part of that service, thats when you discover that oil and filter change alone is £150 +vat, I buy quantum spec oil on eBay along with a Bosch filter for sub £40, an hour of my time job done, I must be doing something right as the car is now at over 180k and as I said before Audi genuine is someone else's quality part in a badge engineered box at twice the price. Steve.
