Mickwillow Posted March 31, 2024 Posted March 31, 2024 Hi so my car has just turned 4 years old and it鈥檚 been to Audi for its 2nd MOT. It passed but had an advisory for聽Offside Rear Lower Coil spring mounting corroded but not seriously weakened!聽 They want 拢320 to change it ! 拢18 part which is a rubber mount with a aluminium strengthening plate mounded into it that corrodes! Great idea not .聽 So has anyone else had any issues yet?聽
Steve Q Posted March 31, 2024 Posted March 31, 2024 First time I've heard of this. Sounds like a design flaw.聽
dalswinton Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 Hi,聽 I had the same problem on my 2017 a4 allroad last year,聽 same place, o/s/r lower, I had mine replaced at an independent v w garage 聽at just over 拢100. p.s. my brother, who has the identical car had his go as well on the o/s/r/ 聽 聽seems funny it is always the o/s/r. that goes. 1
Mickwillow Posted April 1, 2024 Author Posted April 1, 2024 Never had a issue with my 2017 A5 and my father in law has that now , does seem very poor for an Audi just turned 4 year old to have issues like this already, cars only done 28k !聽 聽I have found a guy with YouTube that found the same problem when changing his spring on a A4 funny enough聽 聽

Steve. 1
Mickwillow Posted April 1, 2024 Author Posted April 1, 2024 Waxoyl鈥檚 聽a brilliant idea Stevey 馃憤 think I鈥檓 going to try and change them first then apply the waxoyl聽
Jim Ridley Posted June 8 Posted June 8 (edited) Just Checked mine after reading this ,glad I did off side one is rotten聽 聽 Edited June 8 by Jim Ridley
spartacus 68 Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Waxoil won't stop the corrosion. The alloy insert is there to strengthen the rubber suspension seat. It corrodes from the inside. Leave it and you risk the spring breaking. Easier to replace on a 2WD car. On quattro, you can remove lower shock mount. You need a piston jack to extend lower trailing arm down. Worst case scenario, loosen subframe bolt a few turns too. No need to undo the eccentric bolt either.
Mickwillow Posted Wednesday at 09:43 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 09:43 PM I didn鈥檛 need to do anything apart of removing the lower stock mount bolt and then use a bottle jack and a piece of tube over the bottle jack top to the stock top mount fitting bolt ,聽 using a pair of springs compresses to compress the spring evenly enough to pull out the rubber mount聽 I鈥檝e got to thank Spartacus 聽for his write up . And mine s a Quattro too聽 a 1
Mickwillow Posted Wednesday at 09:50 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 09:50 PM Heads up the screwed on my spring compressors were too long so I cut them down. 聽 But I only paid 拢25 for them聽
Mickwillow Posted Wednesday at 10:02 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 10:02 PM Mark you see the plastic rivets on the lower arm I had a problem removing them so 聽I ended up replacing them ! 拢10 for 4 聽,聽 Job 聽took me about 2.5 to 3 hours聽 聽 1
